Once upon a time, in a shiny space school on a big green hill, little Cadet Yuki woke up with a giggle."Today we go to Mars!" she sang. She put on her sparkly silver suit.
Zip! Zip! Zip! Her friend Cadet Omar came running."I packed space snacks!" he said. His bag went crinkle-crinkle. They met their teacher, AI Mentor NOVA.
NOVA was a happy robot with blinking blue lights."Beep-boop! Ready for teamwork training?" NOVA asked."Yes yes yes!" Yuki and Omar cheered. They climbed into the tiny red rocket. Whoosh!
The door closed with a soft click."First job," said NOVA,"we need to fly together." "I will steer!" said Yuki."I will push the buttons!" said Omar. But when they started, the rocket wobbled. Wobble-wobble-side-to-side!"Oh no!" said Yuki."It is too shaky!" Omar felt sad.
His lip went down-down. NOVA beeped kindly."Try teamwork. Ask, 'How can we help each other?
'" Yuki took a deep breath."Omar, what do you think?" Omar smiled small."Maybe we count together.
One... two... THREE!" They both held the steering wheel.
One... two... THREE! The rocket flew smooth like a sleepy bird.
Zoom-zoom through the stars! The stars went twinkle-twinkle past their window. Next they landed on Mars.
Bump-bump! The red ground was soft like sand."Our next job," said NOVA,"build a cozy science hut." Yuki tried to pick up a big block."Ugh! Too heavy!" she said.
Her face went pink-pink. Omar tried too."Ugh-ugh! Still too heavy!" Can you guess what happened next? They looked at each other."Together?" asked Yuki."Together!" said Omar. They both lifted. Heave-ho!
Heave-ho! The block went up-up-up! They built the hut piece by piece. Click-click went the walls.
Snap-snap went the roof. Inside, NOVA put up a picture of Earth."Good teamwork!" beeped NOVA."Now last job. Plant the friendship flag." The flag was bright yellow. It had two hands holding one heart.
But the pole was tall-tall-tall. Yuki jumped. Boing-boing! She could not reach.
Omar jumped. Boing-boing-boing! He could not reach either. They both felt a tiny bit scared."What do we do?" whispered Omar. Yuki had an idea."Let's stack our space boots!" They took off their big silver boots. Clunk! Clunk! They made a little boot tower.
But it was still too short. Omar laughed."Let’s sit on each other’s shoulders!" So Yuki stood on the boot tower.
Omar climbed up and sat on her shoulders. Wobble-wobble!"Hold hands!" giggled Yuki.
They held hands tight. Up went the flag! Swish-swish into the red sky."We did it!" they shouted. Their voices echoed across Mars: did-it-did-it-did-it! NOVA clapped with metal hands. Clank-clank!"Big cheers for teamwork!" They danced in a circle. Spin-spin-spin! Their boots made swirly prints in the sand.
Then it was time to go home. They climbed back into the rocket. Zoom-zoom! Up they flew.
Mars waved goodbye with its quiet red hills. As they flew, Yuki said,"We are a good team." Omar nodded."We helped each other all day!" NOVA beeped a happy song. Beep-boop-beep! When they got home, the big green hill was waiting. Their rocket landed soft like a feather.
They ran to tell their friends."We built a hut! We flew smooth! We put up a flag!" Everyone clapped. Clap-clap-clap! That night, Yuki and Omar looked up at the sky. A little red dot twinkled."That’s Mars," whispered Yuki."And our flag is still there," smiled Omar. They closed their eyes and felt warm inside. Teamwork made their hearts go thump-thump-happy.
And somewhere far away, the yellow flag waved gently in the Martian wind. Wave-wave. Sleep-tight. Good night, teamwork!
