Once upon a time, in a soft and quiet garden, there lived a little seed named Tiny. Tiny was very small. He was brown and round, just like a tiny chocolate chip. He lived deep down in the dirt.
It was dark and cozy there. *Swish, swish* went the wind above the ground. Tiny was sleeping. He was dreaming a very big dream.
Can you guess what he was dreaming about? Tiny was dreaming about being tall! He wanted to be a giant flower with bright yellow petals. He wanted to touch the sky!
One morning, Tiny woke up. He heard a sound. *Drip, drop, splat! * It was raining!
The water came down through the dirt. It tickled Tiny’s tummy. *Giggle, giggle! * The water was nice and cool.
Tiny took a big drink. *Slurp, slurp! * He felt full of water. He felt ready to grow.
Tiny pushed his little roots down into the dirt. *Push, push! * Then he tried to push his head up.
But he was stuck! The dirt was heavy. Tiny tried again. *Ugh!
* He could not move. “I want to be big now! ” Tiny said. “I want to see the sun!
” Just then, a kind voice spoke from above. It was Rosie the Rose. Rosie was a beautiful flower. She had pink petals and a lovely smell.
*Sniff, sniff! * “Hello down there, little friend,” said Rosie. Her voice was soft like a whisper. “Hello, Rosie!
” said Tiny. “I am Tiny. I want to be big like you. But I am stuck in the dirt.
” Rosie laughed a gentle sound. *Rustle, rustle. * “Do not worry, Tiny,” she said. “I was small like you once.
You need to be patient. ” “What is patient? ” asked Tiny. “Patient means waiting,” Rosie explained.
“You must drink the rain. You must feel the warm sun. You must wait and wait. *Wait and wait.
* Then, one day, you will pop! ” Tiny did not want to wait. He wanted to zoom up fast! *Zoom!
* But he listened to Rosie. He waited. The rain came again. *Splash, splash!
* Tiny drank the water. The sun came out. *Shine, shine! * Tiny felt the warmth on the dirt.
It felt nice. Days went by. A wiggly worm passed by. *Wiggle, wiggle!
* “Hello, Worm,” said Tiny. “Am I big yet? ” “Not yet,” said the Worm. “Keep waiting.
” Tiny waited. It was hard to wait. He felt a little sad. “Will I ever be a flower?
” he asked Rosie. “Yes,” said Rosie. “Good things take time. Drink, drink, drink.
Grow, grow, grow. *Slow and steady. *” Tiny closed his eyes. He took a deep breath.
He felt the water inside him. He felt the sun’s love from above. He felt strong. Very strong.
He pushed his little stem. *Push, push, push! * He pushed harder than ever before. *Pop!
* Suddenly, the dirt moved! Tiny’s head popped out of the ground! *Whoosh! * He saw the bright blue sky.
He saw the green grass. He saw Rosie smiling at him. “Look! ” shouted Tiny.
“I am out! I am out! ” Rosie clapped her leaves. *Clap, clap!
* “You did it, Tiny! You are a sprout now! ” Tiny looked at himself. He was not a giant yellow flower yet.
He was just a small, green sprout with two little leaves. But he was very happy. He felt the wind on his face. *Breeze, breeze.
* He saw a butterfly fly by. *Flutter, flutter. * “Thank you, Rosie,” said Tiny. “Waiting was hard, but I did it!
” “You are doing great,” said Rosie. “Just keep waiting. Keep drinking the rain. Keep loving the sun.
You will be tall one day. Your big dream is coming true. ” Tiny smiled a green, leafy smile. He stood up tall in the sunshine.
He knew he had to be patient. He knew he would grow big and strong. For now, he was just happy to be a little sprout in the beautiful garden. That night, the moon came out.
*Moonlight, glow. * Tiny closed his eyes. “Goodnight, Rosie,” he whispered. “Goodnight, garden.
” He went to sleep, ready to grow a little bit more tomorrow. Can you pretend to be a growing seed? Stretch your arms up high! Reach for the sky!
Good job!
