His little claws gripped the bark."I see one!" he squeaked. A red balloon bobbed on a branch. But oh no!
The branch was too thin. Crack! Whisk wobbled."Help!" "I help!" barked Barky. He stood under the tree. His legs were springs.
Boing! Boing! He caught Whisk on his soft back. Phew!
Next, they needed to reach higher. Chirpy flew up, up, up. Zoom! Her wings went flap-flap-flap.
She spotted three more balloons stuck in a cloud."Over here! Over here!" "But clouds are too fluffy to stand on," said Whisk.
His nose twitched."Hmm," said Barky. His tail stopped wagging. Then Whisk had an idea."Barky, you are tall. I will climb on you! Chirpy will guide us!" "Great plan!" chirped Chirpy. Barky stood very still. Whisk climbed up Barky's back, then his head.
Up, up, up! Chirpy flew above them."Left a bit! Right a bit!
Perfect!" Whisk stretched his tiny arms. Stretch! Stretch!
He grabbed the blue balloon. Pop! It came free!"One down!" cheered Barky. Woof! Woof! But two balloons still danced away.
Swoosh! They flew over the rainbow river."Oh no!" cried Lily from below."The river is too splashy!" The friends looked at each other. They held paws and wings."We do this together!" They ran to the river. Splash! Splish! Splosh!
The water was cold but fun. Chirpy flew above. She saw the yellow and green balloons caught on a rock."There!
There!" Barky was scared."I cannot swim well. The water is deep." Whisk patted his friend."We help each other. Hold my tail!" Chirpy flew down low."Sit on Barky's back. I will pull!" So Barky stepped into the water. Step, step, step.
Whisk held Barky's fur. Chirpy held Whisk's tail with her feet. Flap, flap, flap! Together they made a chain.
Closer... closer... almost..."Reach!" chirped Chirpy."Stretch!" squeaked Whisk."Got it!" barked Barky. He grabbed both balloons with his mouth. Gently, gently. The friends cheered!"We did it! We did it!" They ran back to Lily. Their fur was wet.
Their feathers were ruffled. But their smiles were huge!"Here are your balloons!" they said.
Lily hopped up and down."Thank you! Thank you! You are the best friends ever!" They tied the balloons to Lily's paws. The balloons bobbed and danced in the breeze. Everyone laughed. Hee-hee!
Ha-ha! The friends looked at each other. They felt warm and happy inside."When we work together," said Whisk,"we can do anything!" "Anything!" barked Barky."Anything!" chirped Chirpy.
The three friends hugged. Soft fur, fuzzy feathers, and tiny paws all squished together. Lily gave them each a cupcake."For my heroes!" The cupcakes had sprinkles that sparkled like stars. They sat under the big tree. Munch, munch, munch! The cupcakes tasted like sunshine."What adventure tomorrow?" asked Whisk."Something fun!" said Barky."With teamwork!" said Chirpy. And guess what?
