Once upon a time, twins named Mara and Leo tip-toe into Grandfather's cozy attic. Dust sparkles like tiny stars in the air. Grandfather smiles his wrinkly smile. "I have something special!
" he whispers. He pulls out a little wooden box. It looks old and gray. No colors at all.
Mara gasps. "It looks sad! " Leo nods. "Like it lost its paint.
" Grandfather chuckles. "This is a magic puzzle box from long, long ago. It needs big, bright feelings to shine again. " He gives the box to Mara.
It feels cold. Leo turns a tiny knob. Click-click-click. Nothing happens.
"Let us try together! " says Mara. She thinks of her happiest thing - sunshine. She closes her eyes and giggles.
"Sunshine makes me happy! " The box gives a tiny glow. Just a little yellow blink. Leo thinks of his happiest thing - blueberries.
He laughs. "Blueberries make me happy! " The box blinks again. A little blue blink!
Grandfather claps. "Good! Keep going! " Mara thinks of green grass.
Blink! A green light pops out. Leo thinks of red strawberries. Blink!
A red light pops out. Pop-pop-pop! Colors start dancing around the attic. The box shakes and shakes.
"It is working! " they shout. But then - Uh-oh!
The box stops. It is still gray on top. One piece is missing. "We need one more color!
" Mara says. Leo looks worried. "But we used all our favorite colors. " Grandfather taps his chin.
"Maybe the box wants a new color. A color you make together. " Mara and Leo put their heads close. They think and think.
"I know! " says Mara. "Let us mix yellow sunshine and blue blueberries! " "That makes purple!
" says Leo. They both say,"Purple makes us happy! " The box hears them. It glows big and bright.
Whoosh! A swirl of purple light whooshes out like a rainbow wind. The little gray box jumps in the air. Spin-spin-spin!
It flips open. Inside is the most beautiful thing ever - a tiny dancing star made of every color! It twinkles like giggles. The star floats up.
It touches the attic ceiling. Poof! Colors splash everywhere. The old attic turns into a rainbow room.
Grandfatherâs eyes sparkle. "You did it! You used your creativity to wake up the magic. " The twins jump up and down.
"We made new colors! We made new colors! " The star winks. It sings a tiny song: "Thank you for sharing your bright hearts.
Keep making happy colors every day! " The star slowly fades, leaving soft rainbow dust on everything. Mara hugs Grandfather. "The box was not sad.
It was waiting for us! " Leo hugs the box. "We will keep you colorful! " Grandfather smiles big.
"Creativity is sharing your special colors with the world. " Mara and Leo carry the box downstairs. They put it on the kitchen table. Every day, they add new happy thoughts.
Sometimes it glows pink for love. Sometimes it glows orange for silly jokes. And every night, the rainbow attic twinkles softly, waiting for more colors. Can you guess what color the box will glow tomorrow?
