Once upon a time, in a tall, green forest, lived a little caterpillar named Carl. Carl was bright green and very fuzzy. He had many tiny legs. Carl loved numbers.
He loved to count things all day long. One morning, the sun peeked through the trees. Peep, peep! Carl stretched his body.
Stretch! It is time for an adventure, said Carl. He was so excited. Carl crawled along a branch.
Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. First, he saw one round mushroom. One, said Carl. It was red and shiny with white spots.
It looked like a little umbrella. He kept crawling. Squish, squash. Next, he saw two yellow butterflies.
Two, said Carl. They landed on a flower. Flap, flap, flap. They were so pretty.
Then, Carl saw three brown acorns. Three, said Carl. They were hard and bumpy. They fell on the ground.
Thump, thump, thump. Can you count with Carl? One, two, three! Carl looked up high.
He saw four happy birds singing. Four, said Carl. They had blue feathers. Tweet, tweet, tweet!
The birds sang a loud song. Suddenly, Carl was hungry. He smelled something sweet. Sniff, sniff.
He found five big strawberries! They were bright red and juicy. Five, said Carl. He took a big bite.
Munch, munch, munch. It was so yummy. Carl was full now. He felt safe and happy in his forest home.
He counted one, two, three, four, five. What a good day! The sun went down. The sky turned orange and purple.
Carl curled up on a soft leaf. He closed his eyes. The wind blew gently. Whoosh, whoosh.
Goodnight, Carl. Goodnight, forest.
