Scene 1: Once's moment

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there was a village called Two-Side Town. It was a funny place. Why? Because the village was split right down the middle!

A big, blue river ran through it. Whoosh whoosh went the water. On one side of the river lived the cats. They had soft fur and long tails.

They liked to sleep in the warm sun. Purr purr. On the other side lived the rats. They had small bodies and quick feet.

They liked to find shiny things. Squeak squeak. The cats and the rats did not play together. They did not talk.

They thought they were too different. The cats said rats are too small. The rats said cats are too big. So, the village stayed divided.

One day, a bright orange cat named Kai was playing. Kai was very playful. He had a favorite toy. It was a bright red ball.

It was the bounciest ball in the whole world. Boing boing. Kai threw the ball high into the air. Catch it he meowed.

But the wind was strong that day. Whooooosh. The wind blew the ball right out of Kai's paws. It rolled across the grass.

Zoom zoom. It rolled right to the edge of the river. Oh no cried Kai. He ran fast.

Scamper scamper. But he was too late. The ball fell into the water. Splash.

The red ball floated away. It bobbed up and down. Bob bob. Kai sat by the river.

He felt very sad. His ears drooped down. He let out a small meow. Meow.

On the other side, a small grey rat named Remy was watching. Remy liked to help. He saw the red ball floating near his side of the river. He saw the sad cat on the other side.

Remy had an idea. He found a long stick. He reached out carefully. Stretch.

He hooked the red ball. He pulled it to the dry grass. Remy picked up the ball. It was wet but safe.

He looked at Kai. Kai looked at Remy. They had never looked at each other this closely before. Is this yours squeaked Remy.

His voice was high and soft. Yes said Kai. That is my favorite ball. Can you bring it back.

Remy looked at the wide river. The water moved fast. Swish swoosh. Remy could not swim.

Kai could not swim either. How could they get the ball back. I am stuck squeaked Remy. I cannot cross.

I am stuck too meowed Kai. I want my ball. They were both very sad. But then, something magical happened.

Because they were both being kind, the air started to sparkle. Twinkle twinkle. Little golden lights filled the air. A beautiful green vine grew down from a big tree.

It grew long and strong. It reached across the river. It made a bridge. A Friendship Bridge.

Look shouted Kai. His eyes went wide. Wow whispered Remy. The bridge looked safe.

Kai stepped onto the vine. It wiggled a little bit. Wobble wobble. He was not scared.

He was brave. Remy stepped onto the vine too. They walked slowly to the middle of the bridge. They met right in the center.

Hello Cat said Remy. I am Remy. Hello Rat said Kai. I am Kai.

Remy held out the red ball. Here you are Kai. Thank you Remy said Kai. He smiled a big happy smile.

His whiskers twitched. Twitch twitch. Kai realized something. Remy was kind.

Remy realized something too. Kai was friendly. They were not so different after all.

Do you want to play asked Kai. We can roll the ball on the bridge. Yes please squeaked Remy. He was so excited.

So they played together. Kai pushed the ball. Roll roll. Remy pushed it back.

Roll roll. They laughed and played. Giggle giggle. They had so much fun.

The other animals in the village saw them. They saw the cat and the rat playing on the magic bridge. They saw that they were happy. Soon other cats and rats came to the bridge.

They crossed over. They met in the middle. They said hello. They started to play too.

The village was not divided anymore. It was one big happy family. Can you guess what happened next.

The bridge stayed there forever. It reminded everyone that kindness is magic. It reminded them that anyone can be friends. Kai and Remy played every single day.

They learned that it does not matter if you are big or small. It does not matter if you are a cat or a rat. What matters is being kind. And they all lived happily ever after.

The end.
