Once upon a time, there was a little robot named Pixel Pete. Click-click! His screen showed happy faces all day long. Beep-boop!
He loved to swipe, tap, and scroll. Swipe, tap, scroll! Swipe, tap, scroll! But one day, Pete felt tired.
His buttons were sticky. His screen went blink-blink-blink."Oh no," he said in his robot voice."I need a rest!" Just then, the wind went whoosh-whoosh! A golden map flew right into Pete's round tummy. The map sparkled and shined. It showed a tiny island in the blue, blue sea."Look!" said Pete."A place called No-Screen Island! Maybe I can rest there." So Pete rolled and rolled, clunk-clunk-clunk, until he found a big boat. Splash! The boat sailed away. The boat went creak-creak on the wavy water.
Pete felt the warm sun on his metal head. He heard seagulls cry "Squawk! Squawk!" After a long, long time, he saw green, green trees.
They were waving hello! Pete stepped onto soft, soft sand. His robot feet went squish-squish."Hello?" he called."Anyone here?" Out popped a girl with curly red hair. She wore a big floppy hat."Hi! I’m Analog Anna. Welcome to No-Screen Island! We play with real things here.
No screens allowed!" Pete’s round eyes got bigger."No screens? But I am a screen!" Anna smiled."That’s okay. You can still play. Look, I have chalk!" She drew a hopscotch on the ground. Hop, hop, hop! Pete tried. Clunk, clunk, clunk!
He almost fell. Anna giggled."Try again!" They played hop-hop-hop.
They played tag - run, run, run! They found shiny seashells. They built a tall, tall sandcastle. Pete forgot his blinking screen.
He laughed a new laugh: "Ha-ha-ha!" Then Pete saw something sad. A little turtle lay on the sand. Its flipper was tangled in string."Oh no!" said Pete."The turtle is hurt!" Anna’s eyes got watery."We must help!" Pete’s heart gears went whirr-whirr. He used his tiny robot fingers. Snip, snip, snip!
The string came off. Anna poured cool water on the turtle’s flipper. The turtle blinked slow, kind eyes. It said,"Thank you!" in turtle talk. Pete and Anna smiled big, big smiles. Helping felt warm like sunshine. But then - boom-boom-boom!
Dark clouds rolled in. Rain drops went plop-plop-plop. The wind howled,"Whoooo!" Their sandcastle washed away.
Wave after wave got bigger and bigger. Anna held Pete’s metal hand."I’m scared!" she said."Me too," said Pete. His screen flashed tiny lightning bolts. But he took a deep robot breath."We can be kind to each other.
We will be okay." They ran to a cozy cave. Inside, it smelled like flowers. They found dry leaves and soft moss.
They made a little bed. Anna shared her apple. Crunch-crunch! Pete’s gears buzzed softly.
Hummmm."Tell me a story," said Anna, hugging her knees. Pete’s eyes glowed gentle blue."Once there was a robot who only knew screens.
But a kind girl showed him real games, real hugs, and real help. The robot learned that hearts are better than buttons. The end." Anna giggled."That robot sounds like you!" Pete’s screen turned pink."And the girl is just like you!" They snuggled close.
Outside, the storm sang lullaby sounds. Pitter-patter, pitter-patter. Soon they were both asleep. When morning came, the sky was bright and clean.
Birds chirped,"Tweet-tweet!" The turtle family swam by. They had shiny shells and happy faces. The big turtle waved a flipper.
Thank you again! Pete stretched his robot arms. Click-click! Anna yawned a big yawn.
They walked out of the cave. Something magic had happened! Colorful flowers had bloomed everywhere. Red, yellow, purple, pink!
Butterflies danced. Buzz-buzz went happy bees. A rainbow arched across the sky. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple!
Anna pointed."Look! It’s a thank-you from the sky." Pete’s screen showed a big heart."I feel warm inside. Not hot like wires. Warm like kindness." Anna hugged him."Kindness is the best game of all!" They ran to the beach. They found more turtles, little crabs, and even a baby dolphin. Everyone wanted to play.
Splish-splash! They helped the dolphin back to the deep water. Flip-flop! The dolphin gave them a happy squirt of water.
Tee-hee! Soon it was time to go. Pete’s screen blinked slow and calm now. Not blink-blink-blink.
He rolled onto the boat. Creak-creak. Anna waved from the sand."Come back soon!" But Pete had an idea. He called,"Anna, want to sail with me? We can share kindness everywhere!" Anna’s eyes sparkled."Yes, yes, yes!" She jumped aboard. The boat sailed away. Whoosh-whoosh!
As they left, the island animals waved paws, flippers, and claws. All together they sang,"Be kind, be kind, be kind!" The song followed the boat like a happy breeze. Pete and Anna sailed to new places.
They helped a cat stuck in a tree. Meow! They shared sandwiches with hungry birds. Peck-peck!
Everywhere they went, they left smiles. At night, they looked at twinkly stars. Pete no longer needed bright screens. The stars were enough.
Anna no longer missed her old toys. New friends were enough. And guess what happened next?
Can you guess? More children and little robots heard their story. They wanted to play real games and help, too. So one by one, they came to No-Screen Island.
Not to stay forever, but to rest and learn. The island grew bigger hearts every day. Flowers grew taller. Laughter grew louder.
Kindness was like magic seeds that never stopped growing. And Pixel Pete? His screen now showed only one thing: a big, glowing heart. Beep-boop!
His favorite sound was no longer click-click. It was Anna’s laugh: "Ha-ha-ha!" And they were happy. Very, very happy.
The end. But wait! If you close your eyes real tight, you can still hear the island singing: Be kind, be kind, be kind. Can you sing it, too?
