Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Leo. Leo was a brave explorer. He wore a big blue hat. He had shiny red boots.
Stomp, stomp, stomp went his boots. Leo loved to go on adventures. One sunny morning, Leo walked to the edge of the forest. The trees were tall and green.
The birds were singing. Tweet, tweet, tweet! Leo took a deep breath. In went the fresh air.
Out came a big smile. He was ready for an adventure. Suddenly, he saw a fluffy white owl.
The owl was sitting on a low branch. The owl blinked its big eyes. Who, who, who asked the owl. Hello said Leo.
Are you a wise guide? Yes, nodded the owl. My name is Hoot. I know the forest very well.
Will you show me the magic tree? asked Leo. Follow me, said Hoot. flap, flap, flap went Hoot’s wings.
Leo followed close behind. They walked into the forest. It was dark and cool. The leaves rustled.
Swish, swish, swish. Leo looked around. He saw big ferns. He saw colorful mushrooms.
Red, blue, and yellow. Look! said Hoot. A river!
The river was wide. The water went splash, splash, splash. How do we cross? asked Leo.
He felt a little bit scared. His knees wobbled. Shake, shake, shake. Do not worry, said Hoot.
Look at the stones. Hop, hop, hop! Leo looked at the stones. They were big and grey.
Leo took a step. Splash! He put one foot on the first stone. It was slippery.
He held his arms out for balance. Then he hopped to the next stone. Hop! Then he hopped to the grass on the other side.
Hooray! cheered Leo. He was safe. He was brave.
Hoot flew down beside him. Good job, said Hoot. You are a strong explorer. They kept walking.
The path went up a hill. It was steep. Leo climbed and climbed. Huff, puff, huff.
He was getting tired. Can we rest? asked Leo. Yes, said Hoot.
They sat on a soft rock. Leo looked up. The sky was blue. Fluffy white clouds floated by.
One cloud looked like a bunny. One cloud looked like a car. What do you see? asked Hoot.
I see a big bear eating honey, said Leo with a giggle. Giggle, giggle, giggle. Leo felt happy again. He stood up.
Let's go! he said. They reached the top of the hill. Suddenly, a bright light shone through the trees.
Ooh! said Leo. What is that? Can you guess what happened next?
It was the Whispering Tree! The tree was glowing gold. Its leaves were made of sparkling crystals. Tinkle, tinkle, tinkle went the leaves.
It was beautiful. Leo walked slowly to the tree. He touched the bark. It felt warm and fuzzy.
The tree whispered a secret. Be kind to everyone, whispered the tree. Leo smiled. I will, he whispered back.
Hoot flapped his wings happily. The magic of the tree filled Leo’s heart. It felt like a warm hug. It was time to go home.
Leo waved goodbye to the tree. Thank you! he called. Leo and Hoot walked down the hill.
Zip, zoom, zip! They ran this time. They were fast. They crossed the river again.
Splash, splash, splash. They reached the edge of the forest. Goodbye Hoot, said Leo. Come back soon, said Hoot.
Leo walked home. Stomp, stomp, stomp. He opened his front door. Mom!
I had an adventure! He told his mom about the owl. He told her about the river. He told her about the glowing tree.
And he told her about the secret. Be kind to everyone. That night, Leo slept in his cozy bed. He dreamed of the golden tree.
He was a happy explorer. And he was ready for his next adventure. The end.
