Once upon a bright blue morning, Jasper the bunny hopped-hop-hopped around the village."I want a carrot cake all for me!" he squeaked. He wiggled his pink nose and hopped to the old stone well.
Plink! A shiny coin dropped."I wish for the biggest carrot cake ever!" Whoosh!
A soft blue light glowed. Out came the Spirit of the Well, swish-swirling like happy water."Hello, little hopper! One wish for one coin," she sang.
Splash! Sparkles flew everywhere. Jasper clapped."Yay!
Cake, cake, cake!" The Spirit smiled kindly but shook her watery head."Big wishes need big hearts working together." Jasper blinked."Together?" The Spirit giggled like bubbling water."Go ask your friends. Teamwork makes magic bloom!" Jasper’s ears drooped."But I want it now." "Can you guess what happened next?" The Spirit twirled back into the well with a gentle whoosh. Jasper hopped home. His feet felt heavy. He saw Bella the squirrel balancing acorns."Hi Bella! Want to help me get a giant cake?" Bella’s tail twitched."I love cake!
But I only climb trees." Jasper’s nose wiggled."That’s still help!" So Bella scampered up a tree and picked golden leaves."These make cakes extra yummy!" she chirped. Next Jasper found Max the puppy rolling in daisies."Max! Want cake?" Max barked,"Woof-woof! Yes!
I can dig holes for secret cake recipes!" Dig-dig-dig! Dirt flew. Jasper laughed.
Soon Lila the kitten skipped over, ribbon twirling."I can mix mix mix with my paws!" she purred. The friends ran back to the wishing well.
Plink-plunk-plank! They each dropped a coin. The Spirit rose again, all shimmery and smiling."I see helpers, not just wishers!" Jasper said,"We work together!" The Spirit clapped watery hands. Splash! A tiny carrot cake popped up on the well wall.
Jasper’s ears drooped."But it’s so small." The Spirit giggled."Plant kindness, watch it grow!" She sprinkled starry water. Whoosh! The cake grew... and grew...
and GREW! Soon it was bigger than the well! The friends gasped."Wow!" The Spirit winked."Teamwork turned one wish into a party!" But oh no! The cake teetered on the edge.
It wobbled-wibbled-wobbled! Jasper squeaked,"It’s going to fall!" Max barked,"Dig a soft spot!" Dig-dig-dig!
Bella gathered leaves for a cushion. Lila tied ribbons to steady it. Together they pushed, pulled, giggled and grunted. The cake rolled safely onto the grass."We did it!" they cheered. The Spirit clapped again. Whoosh!
Paper plates and spoons appeared, all rainbow colors. Jasper’s eyes sparkled."Sharing makes it sweeter!" Everyone nodded.
They sat in a circle. Jasper cut the first piece."One for Bella, one for Max, one for Lila, and one for me!" Munch-munch-munch!
The cake tasted like sunshine and giggles. The Spirit watched, smiling softly."Remember, little ones, wishes come true when hearts work hand in paw." The friends licked frosting from their noses."We will remember!" they sang. Jasper looked at the big cake. Half was still left.
He hopped up."Let’s share with the village!" The others clapped. Together they pushed the cake down the hill.
Roly-poly-roll! Children peeked out."Free cake!" they laughed.
Soon everyone had sticky fingers and happy tummies. The village square smelled sweet and warm. Old Grandpa Tortoise smiled slowly."Good teamwork, little ones." The sun set orange and pink. Jasper’s heart felt bigger than the cake ever was. He hopped back to the well. The Spirit peeked out."Thank you, Spirit. I learned the best wish is helping friends." The Spirit sprinkled tiny stars over Jasper like sleepy dust."And that, little hopper, is the biggest magic of all." The moon rose. Jasper snuggled with his friends under a blanket of fireflies. They whispered,"Together, together, together." And somewhere deep in the well, the Spirit giggled again.
Splash! All was peaceful. All was sweet. The end...
until the next wish!
