Once upon a time, in a big green forest, lived a little dinosaur named Dino. Dino was bright green with tiny orange spots on his back. He had a very long tail and a big, happy smile. Today was a very special day.
It was Dino's first day of school! Dino woke up when the sun peeked through his window. The birds were singing outside. Tweet tweet tweet!
Dino brushed his big teeth with a giant toothbrush. Scrub, scrub, scrub. His teeth sparkled like white pearls. He ate some yummy leaves for breakfast.
Munch, munch, munch. Then, he put on his favorite blue backpack. He felt a little bit nervous. His tummy went flip-flop, flip-flop.
But he was also excited. He wanted to learn new things and make friends. Dino walked to school. Stomp stomp stomp went his big feet on the path.
The leaves were crunchy under his toes. Crunch crunch crunch. He saw a squirrel running up a tree. 'Hello!
'said Dino. The squirrel waved a fluffy tail. Soon, Dino saw the schoolhouse. It was a cozy cave with big rocks to sit on.
It looked very fun. Dino walked inside. Wow! It was bright and colorful.
The room smelled like pine trees and fresh rain. There were other little dinosaurs there. There was a long-neck dinosaur and a bumpy dinosaur. At the front of the room was Teacher Owl.
Teacher Owl had big, round eyes and soft brown feathers. She looked very kind. 'Welcome, everyone! 'hooted Teacher Owl.
'Welcome to Dinosaur School! 'Dino found a spot on a soft rug. He sat down quietly. A long-neck dinosaur sat next to him.
'Are you scared? 'asked the long-neck dinosaur. 'A little bit,'said Dino. 'Me too,'said the friend.
Dino felt better knowing he was not alone. First, they sang a song. 'La la la! 'sang the dinosaurs.
Then, it was time for the best part. Art class! Teacher Owl brought out big trays of colors. 'Today we are going to paint,'said Teacher Owl.
'You can paint anything you want. Use your imagination! 'Imagination means thinking up fun ideas in your head. The other dinosaurs dipped their tails in the brown mud paint.
Splash! They made big brown circles on the paper. Splat, splat, splat. Dino looked at the blank paper.
It was very white. He looked at the brown mud paint. Everyone else was using it. Dino felt a small worry in his heart.
What if his picture was silly? He looked around the room. He saw some bright yellow flowers on the table. He saw some shiny blue berries in a bowl.
He had a sparkly idea in his brain. Can you guess what Dino wanted to do? Dino picked up a yellow flower with his tiny hand. He dipped it in some blue berry juice.
Then, he pressed the flower on his paper. Stamp! It made a star shape! It was blue and yellow.
Dino was so happy. He used a stick to draw lines. Ziiiip! He made a sun.
He used a leaf to make grass. Swish, swish. He made a picture of a dancing dinosaur having a party. The other dinosaurs stopped painting.
They looked at Dino's paper. Their eyes went wide. 'That is amazing! 'said the long-neck dinosaur.
'I never thought to use a flower! 'said the bumpy dinosaur. Dino felt his face get warm. He felt shy but proud.
Teacher Owl flew over to look. 'Oh my,'hooted Teacher Owl. 'Dino, this is so creative! You used new things to make something beautiful.
That is what art is all about. 'Teacher Owl showed the class Dino's picture. Everyone clapped their hands. Clap clap clap!
Then, everyone wanted to try. The long-neck dinosaur used a twig. The bumpy dinosaur used a pinecone. Soon, the whole room was full of amazing pictures.
There were pictures of rainbows and mountains and oceans. It was the most colorful art class ever. Dino smiled a big, toothy smile. He was glad he used his imagination.
He was glad he was different. The school bell rang. Ding dong ding! 'Time to go home,'said Teacher Owl.
'See you tomorrow, friends! 'Dino packed his backpack. He put his picture inside carefully. He walked home.
Stomp stomp stomp. He could not wait to show his picture to his family. It was the best first day ever. And he knew tomorrow would be fun too.
